Norman L. Barkley Sr., 71, of 558 S. Mechanic St., died Thursday, March 23, 2017 at the Ellis Farm, Hospice of Jefferson County in Watertown.
Norman was born on February 15, 1946 in Carthage, the son of the late Kenneth and Doris (Bebee) Barkley. He married the former Molly J. Durant on July 2, 1966 in Carthage. He was employed at AMF in Lowville before joining the St. Regis Paper Company in Deferiet. There, he worked in the groundwood department for several years, retiring in 1995.
He enjoyed woodworking and lawn work and was constantly helping others.
He is survived by his wife: Molly J. Barkley of Carthage, one daughter and her husband: Mrs. Jeffrey (Naura) Christman of Carthage, two sons and their wives: Norman L. (Annie) Barkley Jr. of Carthage and Nicholas (Catherine) Barkley of Amesbury, MA,; 5 Grandchildren, Alesa Bernat, Ricky Lehnhardt, Ava Barkley, Lily Barkley and Olive Barkley, 2 Great Grandchildren, Sydney and Thomas Bernat, two sisters: Sharon Culbertson of Antwerp and Judy Hickman of North Carolina, two brothers: Wayne Barkley of Watertown and Terry Barkley of Carthage and several nieces and nephews. A sister, Katherine Barkley is predeceased.
A "Celebration of Life" will be held from 1-5pm on Sunday, March 26th at the Champion Fire Hall. There will be no calling hours. Arrangements are with the Bezanilla-McGraw Funeral Home.
