Obituary

Patrick T. Brady, 92, a lifelong resident of Carthage, died Sunday, December 3,2023 at the Oswego Hospital in Oswego NY.

Patrick was born on December 2, 1931, in Carthage, the youngest son of the late J. Clarence and Mabel L. (Finnegan) Brady. He was a 1949 graduate of Carthage High School.  His enthusiasm for sports lead him to study at Cortland State Teachers College for a year, majoring in Physical Education. He served in the Navy and was stationed in Guam during the Korean War from Oct 1951- Aug 1953. He returned to Carthage and worked at the St. Regis mill in West Carthage before starting his lifetime career as a mailman in July of 1956 until his retirement in the summer of 1988. He then was a driver for Grays Flower Shop and drove school bus for Indian River Central School from 1991-2003. From 2003-2008 he was a driver for JRC in Watertown.

He married the former Marilyn G. Boyle on July 3,1965 at St. James Church in Carthage and they were married for 52 years until her passing on April 19, 2018.

Pat was a lifelong communicant of St. James Catholic Church in Carthage. He was a 4th degree member of the Bishop Conroy General Assembly Knights of Columbus and a member of the Knights of Columbus Council # 291 of Carthage where he served as financial secretary for 15 years. He was also active in the Carthage American Legion, serving as adjutant for 20 years and was a member of the VFW and Carthage Elks Lodge. He was active in the democratic party, served on the Town of Wilna Housing Board for 7 years and was a Carthage Village trustee for 13 years. He was proud of his Irish heritage and was a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and all sports. He was an avid fan of local football and the New York Giants.

He is survived by one daughter: Jean M. Edwards and her husband Brian of Colorado Springs, CO, one son: James P. Brady and his wife Michelle of Clayton NY; his five grandchildren; Patrick (Hannah), Kelsey (Makenzie) and Shayne (Amber) Brady and Paul and Claire Edwards and nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his infant son, Michael Brady, a sister, Mary Rita Beaton, and a brother, Joseph H. Brady.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held 1:00 pm on Thursday, December 7 at St. James Catholic Church with Rev. Severinus Torwoe officiating.  Burial with military honors will be in Fairview Cemetery, Carthage. Friends may call at the church on Thursday from 12:00 - 1:00pm. Arrangements are with the Bezanilla-McGraw Funeral Home, Carthage. Donations in his name can be made to Bassett-Baxter American Legion scholarship fund.
