Ralph A. Rivers,74, of 510 Fulton St., Carthage, died Thursday afternoon, January 18, 2018 at his home in Carthage, surrounded by his family.

Ralph was born on May 3, 1943 in Carthage, the son of the late Ralph L. and Eleanor (Gibeau) Rivers.  He was a graduate of Carthage Central High School in 1962. Following school, he worked at Climax MFG in Castorland. He was employed by the NYARNG on Fort Drum, retiring after 31 years of service as an armament supervisor.  A marriage to the former Sandra Moore ended in divorce. He married the former Evelyn S. Spormann on May 11, 1991 at Brantingham.

Ralph was a member and former Commander of the American Legion Post # 789 of Carthage, member and former "Elk of the Year" of the BPOE Lodge # 1762 in Carthage, longtime member of the Carthage Vol. Fire Dept. and the "Nighthawks" Drill Team. During the Blizzard of 77, he was very committed to helping and delivering food, medicine and supplies on snowmobiles. He also was a former member of Carlowden Country Club in Denmark where he and his wife Evelyn operated the clubhouse for 4 years. He served on the school board of Augustinian Academy when his children attended. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed golfing, hunting and bowling and was a 700 Club member.

He is survived by his wife: Evelyn S. Rivers of Carthage, two daughters and their husbands: Deborah and Gary Guyette of Myrtle Beach, SC and Christine and Michael McLane of Carthage, three grandchildren; Geoffrey and Camrin Guyette and Megan Brotherton; two step grandsons, Jordan and Remington McLane and nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his three sisters, Helen Millnitz, Carol Cross and Marlene Rivers.

Per his wishes there will be no services. Arrangements are with the Bezanilla-McGraw Funeral Home in Carthage.
