IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Raymond A.
Gregory
November 5, 1949 – May 5, 2025
Harrisville- Raymond A. Gregory, 75, of Lake Bonaparte, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 5th, 2025, while under care at Roswell Park Cancer Center in Buffalo, NY, with his loving wife and son by his side.
Raymond was born on November 5th, 1949, in Watertown, NY, the son of the late Raymond H. Gregory and Patricia (Post) Gregory. Upon graduating from Watertown High School in 1969, he attended Jefferson Community College and later enlisted in the United States Army Reserves.
Ray managed the sporting goods department at the former Woolworth department store in Watertown. He later saw an opportunity to work closer to home, where he owned and operated Ray's Red and White Grocery Store in Harrisville, while also running LaParr's Restaurant, right across the street. He later switched gears, selling both businesses. He then began working as an Outside Sales Consultant at White's Lumber in Watertown, NY, retiring in 2022 after nearly 4 decades of service.
He married Lou Ann Jarvis on October 2, 1988, at the Harrisville United Methodist Church in Harrisville, NY. Raymond was a devoted son, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. He found purpose in helping others and kept his part of the lake in working order. He could often be found helping and supervising his neighbors with their projects, usually accompanied with a recommendation or suggestion.
Service was also important to Ray. He sat as a board member on the Lake Bonaparte Conservation Club and served as the Town of Diana Councilman & Deputy Supervisor for over 30 years, advocating for the lake and town he lived in.
Ray had many hobbies and excelled at most of them. Classic cars, motorcycles and home projects were his forte. He also enjoyed skiing (both water and snow) and being on the ski patrol, cooking, DJ'ing, woodworking, concert going, and golf. The only thing he enjoyed more than swinging a club was tinkering around with his tractor. He was happiest outside.
He is survived by his wife, Lou Ann Gregory, of Lake Bonaparte; his children, Melissa Gregory (Brendan McGrew), Philadelphia, PA: David (Robin) Gregory, Lowville, NY; Nathan (Sarah) Reed, Harrisville, NY; and Dylan Reed (Karie Fitzgerald), Watertown, NY; along with 6 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
