Richard Fox, 77, of 40824 Rogers Crossing Road, died Saturday, November 4, 2017 at home while under the care of his family and Hospice of Jefferson County.
Born Richard Fuchs (Fox) on August 24, 1940 in Chodov, Czechoslovakia, the son of the late Josef and Franziska (Schubert) Fuchs. When WW II came to their city, his family was forced to leave their home, belongings (except what they could carry), and their business and moved to Unterebersbach, Germany where he grew up and went to school. When Richard finished school, they moved to Frankfurt, Germany where he was a plumbing and heating apprentice and attended business school. He came to the USA in 1956 at the age of 16, working for Altamont Milk Company, Durkees Bakery and various vending machine companies, first as a deliveryman and then as a technician repairing the machines. He married the former Jeannette Lanpher (Jeannie) on May 5, 1962 at the Grace Episcopal Church in Carthage.
Richard loved doing things with his children, grands, hunting, camping, traveling and "tinkering". He loved a good joke. He was a member of Grace Episcopal Church, the American Legion for 28 yrs. and the Carthage Elks Club for 52 yrs.
He is survived by his wife: Jeannette, one daughter and son-in-law: Karen and Mark Hills, two sons and a daughter-in-law: Jeffrey and JoAnn Fox and Timothy Fox and his fiance' Christine Hart all of Carthage, 13 Grandchildren, a niece, Charlotte Liebig and a nephew, Ralph Ferguson. He is preceded in death by his parents, a sister Lisa Lotte Ferguson, a niece Christine Ferguson Kamide and a great niece Maria Liebig.
Funeral services will be held at 5:00 pm on Wednesday, November 8 at the Bezanilla-McGraw Funeral Home with Rev. Edward Murphy officiating. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, West Carthage at the family's convenience. Calling hours will precede the funeral service from 2-5 pm on Wednesday.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Jefferson County, 1398 Gotham St., Watertown, NY 13601, Carthage Area Rescue Squad, 200 Riverside Drive, or the Carthage Volunteer Fire Department.
