Adams - Rodney James Hewitt, 72, of 10924 Wright St. Road, died Saturday evening, October 4, 2014, in the emergency room of Ellis Hospital in Schenectady after being stricken while returning home from visiting his family.
Rodney was born in Carthage on September 18, 1942, the son of the late Roswell and Gladys Clark Hewitt. He was a 1961 graduate of Carthage Central High School then served in the U.S. Navy from 1961 to 1966. He received his AAS degree from JCC and graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelors of Science degree from SUNY, New Paltz in 1977. He worked for the Monroe-Woodbury School District then returned to Carthage, working at the Crown Zellerbach Corp. until the mill closed. He was an Art Instructor at Fort Drum for 20 years, retiring in 2004. A former marriage to Lelita Lago ended in divorce.
Rodney is survived by his wife of 31 years, Cait Schadock of Adams, two daughters: Ellen (Russell) Hausmann of Bloomington, NY, from his previous marriage, and Abby Schadock-Hewitt of Greenville, SC, 3 Grandchildren, Ryan, Steven and Lorren Potter and a Great Grandson, Owen Potter-Krieger, two sisters: Donna (Roger) Hoch of Carthage and Linda (Gary) Weir of Lakeland, FL and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is predeceased by a sister, Marcia Spencer and a brother, Roger Hewitt.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday evening at 6:00pm at the Bezanilla-McGraw Funeral Home where calling hours will precede the funeral service from 3-6pm. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
