Roger E. Ormiston, 89, formerly of the Limburg Forks Road, Carthage, passed away Tuesday morning, May 14, 2024 at the Lewis County Residential Health Care Facility in Lowville where he has resided for a year.

Roger was born in the Town of Wilna on February 9, 1935, the son of the late Leonard and Carrie (Wilton) Ormiston. He attended a one room schoolhouse near Beartown. He served in the Army for two years during the Korean Conflict. He married the former Helen A. Cronk on June 3, 1956, at the First Methodist Church in Carthage with Rev. Richard L. Hudson officiating. Helen passed away on August 28, 2003. In his early years, Roger drove a delivery truck for Black River Oil, worked for Les Card part time and worked construction for Erin Lundy. He then joined Crown Zellerbach in 1976 as a papermaker and worked there for over 20 years, retiring from James River in 1997.

He enjoyed the outdoors and keeping his home and grounds meticulous.

Roger is survived by his son, Bruce (Sharon) Ormiston of Anderson, SC, a daughter, Brenda (Gary) Bivens of Richmond, VA, 3 grandchildren - Jonelle McBride of Adams Center, Shawnna (Jeremy) Brotherton of Black River and Jenna Ormiston of Anderson, SC and a sister, Beulah Dillon of Black River along with numerous nieces and nephews including a niece Kathy Countryman who took special care of him in his later years. In addition to his wife he is predeceased by a son, Dale Ormiston who died on July 1, 2013, a daughter, Shari A. McBride who died on November 12, 2019, two brothers, Ray and Richard Ormiston and a brother-in-law, David Dillon.
