West Carthage - Ronald J. Grover, 73, of 36 Liberty St., died Tuesday, April 1, 2014, at his residence where he was under the care of his family and Hospice of Jefferson County.
Ron was born in Sayreville, NJ on June 22, 1940, the son of Mildred Grover Boley. After attending school in Sayreville he joined the Army and served three years from 1959 to 1962. He married the former Barbara A. Vandewater on August 25, 1962 at St. James Church in Carthage. Barbara died on March 2nd of this year.
Ron worked for 37 years at the New Jersey National Guard on Fort Drum where he was a mechanic, working on heavy equipment. He retired on July 1, 1999.
He was a benevolent member of the West Carthage Volunteer Fire Department, former member of the Hornets Drill Team of West Carthage, life member of both the BPOE Elks Lodge # 1762 and American Legion Post # 789 of Carthage and a member of the 700 Club for bowling.
He is survived by one daughter: Liza A. Grover of Calcium, one son and his fiancé: Michael J. Grover and Kim Sevier of Livermore, CA, his mother, Mildred Boley of Sayreville, NJ, a daughter-in-law, Stephanie Grover of Liverpool and 3 Grandchildren. His son, Daniel J. Grover died on October 18, 2012.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 3rd at 6:00 PM at the Bezanilla-McGraw Funeral Home with the Rev. George F. Maroun officiating. Spring burial with military honors will be in St. James Cemetery, Carthage. Calling hours at the funeral home will precede the funeral service from 3-6pm on Thursday .
