Obituary

Roswell Charles Bowman (Roz), 86, of Barefoot Bay, Florida passed away on Monday, July 6, 2015 at Sebastian River Medical Center in Sebastian, Florida as a result of acute leukemia.

Born on May 6, 1929 in Watertown, NY, Roz was the oldest son of the late Leslie and Ruth Bowman, of Carthage, NY. He is survived by his brother, Ralph (Shirley), and two sisters, Marie Lofink (Harold) and Helen Lawton, all of Carthage. He is predeceased by his late brother, Wayne (Jane Jenkins).

Roz was married to the former Juanita M. (Nita) Love of Bombay, NY on April 18, 1953 at St. James Catholic Church in Carthage. The couple lived in Carthage prior to moving to Deferiet in 1961, and resided there until moving to Barefoot Bay, Florida in 1994. Until 2006, they spent each summer at their cottage on Lake Bonaparte in Harrisville. Roz and Nita were happily married for nearly 60 years, and he was a faithful and devoted caregiver to his beloved wife in the years prior to her death in 2012.

After graduating from West Carthage High School in 1947, Roz later graduated from Watertown School of Commerce. He served two years in the Army, spending 18 months with the occupation forces in Germany during World War II. He was employed in the IBM department at St. Regis Paper Company in Deferiet for 37 years. He retired in 1990.

Roz was a devoted father to his two sons, David (Mary) of Clayton, NY and Robert (Michelle) of Beaver Falls, NY. He was an avid supporter of all their endeavors especially on the athletic field. He was also the very proud grandfather to six grandchildren; Bryanne of Manlius, Colby of Waddington, Keegan of Beaver Falls, Brian of Rochester, Mark of Houston, Texas and Daniel of Nashville, Tennessee. He loved family gatherings and spending time playing horseshoes, golfing and snowmobiling. His family and friends will miss this gentle giant who always entertained with his quick wit and kind demeanor.

There will be no calling hours and internment will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Evans Mills at the convenience of the family. Local arrangements are with Bezanilla-McGraw Funeral Home, Carthage.
