Sharon J. Johnson, 80, of State Route 26, Carthage, peacefully passed surrounded by family on Tuesday morning, August 27th, 2024, at Albany Medical Center.

Sharon was born on July 14th, 1944, at Walter Reed General Hospital in Washington, DC. She was the daughter of the late Lemuel Russell and Geraldine (Desrosiers) Paul. As a young girl, she dreamed of becoming a majorette, which she later accomplished. She was a 1962 graduate of Carthage Central School and later received her AAS degree in Business from Jefferson Community College in Watertown. Sharon worked as a secretary at Carthage Machine Company, waitressed at the Elks Club in Carthage and Intorcia's Donut Shop and worked as an editor at the Carthage Republican Tribune for several years. A previous marriage to Jerry W. LaRock, ended in divorce. She married her soulmate David H. Johnson on December 22nd,1979 in Carthage. Sharon was not only the Office Manager, she was also an integral part of the success of her husband's businesses, David Johnson & Company and David Johnson Auctions of Carthage.

Sharon was known for her infectious laugh, her sunny personality and her candid honesty. She had a way to make you feel welcome and loved. There was always a hot cup of coffee nearby, anytime you wanted to visit with her. David and Sharon loved to visit their Brantingham home to relax and soak up the beauty of the lake and sunshine.

Sharon loved tennis and was a champion player as a member of the Carthage Tennis Association. In addition, she was an avid golfer and member of both Carlowden Country Club in Denmark and Brantingham Golf Club in Brantingham. She played in the women's league and had two hole-in-ones! She loved spending her winters in St. Augustine, Florida and her summers at Brantingham Lake, New York where she had a pet whitetail deer affectionately named "George". She enjoyed her many animals at her farm, Twin Ridge Farm, on their homestead on the Deer River Road.

She will forever be missed by her husband: David H. Johnson of Carthage, six sons: Todd (Jessica Vaughan) LaRock of West Carthage, Troy (Tammy) LaRock of Natural Bridge, Travis (Jamie) LaRock of Mechanicsville, VA, David (Wendy) Johnson of Oswego, Aaron (Emma) Johnson of Oswego, and Charles (Jennifer) Johnson of Pearl Harbor, HI, and several Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren. She is predeceased by her brother, Gary Paul, and a sister, Michelle Desrosiers.

Funeral services will be held privately by the family at the Bezanilla-McGraw Funeral Home in Carthage. There will be a Celebration of Life on Saturday, August 31st from 1pm-4pm at the BPOE Elks Lodge #1762 in Carthage. Memorial donations in Sharon's memory may be made to the BPOE Elks Lodge #1762.
