Carthage - Sharon (Shari) Ann McIlroy of 122 N. School St. died Thursday November 12, 2015 at the Country Manor Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Carthage surrounded by her family. She was 71 years old.

Shari was born in Carthage on June 30 1944, the daughter of the late Elmer E. and Mary E. (Sementelli) Shortt. She was a 1962 graduate of Augustinian Academy and married G. Wayne McIlroy on September 12, 1962 at St. James Church in Carthage.


Shari is survived by her husband, G. Wayne McIlroy of Carthage; two daughters Kimberlee McIlroy of Carthage and Laura (Keith) Wiggins of Baldwinsville; one son David (Dawn) McIlroy of Syracuse; 7 Grandchildren Matthew, Michael, Kaleigh, Cody, Jesse, Hunter and Parker; 3 Great Grandchildren; three sisters; Nancy Kerr of Star Lake, Debra Shortt of Clifton Park and Karin Poitras of Scotia; an uncle, Robert (Grace) Sementelli of Syracuse; nieces, a nephew and cousins.

In addition to being a loving wife, mother and grandmother, Shari was employed at the Carthage Central High School for many years as a member of the cafeteria staff. Later she worked as a floral designer at Grays Flower Shop and was last employed as a sales associate for Allen's Jewelers in Carthage.

Shari was involved in the community as a member of St. James Catholic Church, Ave Maria Circle, Carthage Area Hospital Auxiliary and also served on the Carthage Zoning Board from 1999-2001.

Calling hours will be held at the Bezanilla-McGraw Funeral Home on Monday, November 16th from 4-7pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, November 17th at 10:00 AM at St. James Catholic Church with the Rev. Donald A. Robinson, Pastor officiating. Burial will follow the mass at St. James Cemetery.
