Obituary

Shirley Ann Haggett, 74, of Route 26, Deer River, died Tuesday morning, April 30, 2019 at Crouse Hospital in Syracuse.

Shirley was born on March 6, 1945 in Carthage, the daughter of the late Ervin and Pearl (Barnum) Dekin Jr. She was a 1964 graduate of Carthage High School. Shirley received her Licensed Practical Nursing degree in Watertown.  She married Charles E. Haggett Jr. on April 15, 1972 at the Deer River Congregational Church. Charles served in the Air Force and while stationed in Plattsburgh, Shirley worked for several years at Sacred Heart Nursing Home. They moved to Deer River in 1983 and Shirley was employed at Country Manor Nursing Home until her retirement in 2016. Charles died on April 23, 1995.

She is survived by her three sons: Charles E. Haggett III of Deer River, Walter A. Haggett of Palermo, ME and David E. Haggett of South Chesterfield, VA, four Grandchildren and one Great Grandchild, her brother: Walter Dekin of Nevada and one niece. Her sister, Ervina Dekin, died on May 24, 2007.

Graveside services will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday, May 13 in Swinburne Cemetery, Deer River with Milton LaSalle officiating. There will be no calling hours. Arrangements are with the Bezanilla-McGraw Funeral Home, Carthage.

Memorial donations in Shirley's memory may be made to Wyeland Kennel, 34060 Jackson II Road, Carthage, NY 13619 to help support animals in need of care.
