Obituary

Terry L. Getman, 70, of Schwendy Drive, Carthage, died the morning of March 1st at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital in Virginia after a brief illness. He was born in Carthage on January 22, 1946 and was a 1965 graduate of Carthage Central High School. He married Donna J. Zecher on April 18, 1970. Terry worked many years at the former St. Regis paper mill in Deferiet before transferring to Southern Container in Solvay, NY where he worked until his retirement. He was a member of BPOE Lodge# 1762in Carthage, a past Fire Chief and a benevolent member of the West Carthage Vol. Fire Department as well as a former member of the Hornets Firematics Drill Team.

A lover of the outdoors, Terry enjoyed hunting, fishing and boating and was happiest at his home on Pleasant Lake. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and he cherished spending time with family and friends. He will be remembered most for his wonderful sense of humor, unbending work ethic, and his strong devotion to family.

He was the son of the late Frank and Ethel Sullivan Getman and was also preceded in death by his brother Donald. Terry is survived by his wife Donna, daughter Deanna Cook and husband John of Manteo NC, son Jeffrey of Charleston SC, two grandchildren, Jack and Kelley Cook, a brother Richard of Watertown, and Kyle Dutch of Lewisville NC, who he considered another son.

A celebration of Terry's life will be held at the Carthage Elks Lodge on Sunday, March 13th beginning at 2:00 pm. Memorial services will be conducted by the West Carthage Vol. Firemen at 2:30 pm followed by the BPOE Elks Lodge # 1762 at 3:00 pm.
