Obituary

Deer River - Warren G. Gamble, 95, died Thursday morning, December 11, 2014, in the Skilled Nursing Unit of the Carthage Area Hospital where he has resided since August of 2012.


Warren was born in Carthage on June 11, 1919, the son of the late George and Ida Persha Gamble. He graduated from Carthage High in 1938. He served in the Army as a Master Sergeant from February of 1942 to December of 1945. He married the former Jessie M. Garrett on June 6, 1942 at the Gamble home in Carthage. He started Gamble Machine Co. on April 5, 1947 together with his wife in Deer River. They machined parts for all the local paper mills and businesses. In 1960 they became Gamble Distributors Inc., and built the former sales office on Route #3 in Carthage. He retired in 1982. The couple wintered for many years in Apollo Beach, Florida. Mrs. Gamble died on October 18, 2010.

He was a Life member of BPOE Lodge # 1762 of Carthage, Life member of the American Legion Post # 789 of Carthage, Diana Hunting Company of Harrisville, former director of the Branaugh Memorial Boys Club and former director of the St. Lawrence National Bank. For many years the Gamble's would work and sponsor a dinner to raise money to send less fortunate children to Camp Mohawk at Sand Pond. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed his camp at Black Lake for many years.


He is survived by one son and his wife: Richard W. and Sheryl Gamble of Carthage, 5 grandchildren: Steven and Jeffrey Gamble, Robin Moore, Sarah Siegfried and Joshua Reed, and 9 great grandchildren. A daughter, Bonnie Lou Reed died on June 7, 2004.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, December 14th at 3:00 pm at the Bezanilla-McGraw Funeral Home with Deacon Richard Staab officiating. Burial in the spring will be in Swinburne Cemetery, Deer River. Calling hours will precede the funeral service on Sunday from 12pm-3pm. A memorial service at 1:30 pm will be conducted by members of the American Legion Post #789.
