Obituary

CARTHAGE- Wilbur W. Millard, 92, formerly of S. James St. Carthage, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 29, 2025, at the Samaritan Summit Village in Watertown, NY.

Wilbur was born November 29, 1932, in Lowville, the son of the late George L. & Louise (Post) Millard.  He graduated from Lowville Academy in 1950. He served proudly in the United States Air Force on active duty during the Korean War from 1952-1955, he also served in the reserves and was honorably discharged on January 3,1960.

He married Marie S. Solomon on October 27,1956 at St. James Catholic Church in Carthage. Wilbur worked at International Harvester and he also worked at Rupert Sales & Service for 14 years. He retired after 25 years serving as the Head Mechanic from the Beaver River Central School District in Croghan, NY.

He was a member of St. James Catholic Church, Basset-Baxter American Legion Post #789 and the BPOE Lodge #1762, of Carthage.

He is survived by his three sons: Joseph W. (Carolyn) Millard of Carthage, Timothy G. Millard of Deerfield and Gregory T. (Sarah) Millard of Carthage, 4 Grandchildren and 3 Great Grandchildren, one sister: Marlyn Bickom, Lafargeville; a sister-in-law Charlotte Millard of Lowville; and a brother-in-law, Thomas Solomon.

Wilbur was a devoted son, husband, father, brother, grandfather, and great-grandfather who enjoyed hunting, woodworking, and traveling.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday, April 3, 2025, at 11:00 am at St. James Catholic Church. Burial will follow in the St. James Cemetery, Carthage. A Calling hour will be held at the church from 10:00am-11:00am.

He is predeceased by his wife, Marie S. Millard who died on February 2, 2023, his sisters, Arletha Zecher, Alfreda Grimsley, Carol (Richard) Cozzi, and Norma Jean Millard who passed away in infancy, a brother, Gerald Millard.
